The ability to subordinate an impulse to a value is the essence of the proactive person.

June: Discipline

Intention And Perseverance

Many useful qualities may be negatively charged from our experiences or history. One that comes to mind is discipline. Discipline used to be a common word but came to be identified with authoritarianism and once the word started to carry the baggage of abuse it became less popular.  As a result, intention has become the word of choice to describe making choices and decisions from a conscious place.

This month we will explore both the positive and negative aspects of intention, control, discipline and perseverance from various perspectives. First, listen to Angela Duckworth's talk about perseverance especially for the long-term. Because we live in a short-sighted world and because that impacts sensitive people in a negative way, sensitive people may assume that they cannot have success in life. Angela's talk is refreshing in that it dispels many myths about the qualities necessary for success.

How To Explore

To make your explorations meaningful, use these steps to enjoy the deepest and most fruitful experience.

Step 1: Learn

Each week you will receive some concepts around the three frameworks to help you rethink and reframe your perceptions.

Step 2: Explore

Explore the questions offered as downloads and also the articles and other material which give different perspectives on the topics.

Step 3: Discuss

We have a great community here. This is a safe place to ask questions, try out ideas and ask for help around a topic.

Step 4: Integrate

Integrating the learning into your life is like peeling an onion. That is why we start with concepts and then learn how to apply them.

Overview And Purpose

Discipline is an important tool that helps us to learn skills and create results. It is a building block of manifesting in the world.

This month we want to understand more about discipline as a

  • necessity if we are to flower and come into our own
  • as a basis for focus which lets us do the great work we are capable of
  • as a way of using our sensitive gifts and listening to inner and outer information and wisdom.
  • and as a way to persevere to accomplish important goals.

We want to be able to discern healthy and unhealthy discipline from this month's explorations.
