August: The Egalitarian Drive
The Egalitarian Drive
As unfair as life is, there is a part of each of us that wants life to fair. Fair feels good, it feels harmonious and congruent. It gives you that "all is right with the world" feeling that is wonderful.
This month we explore how to bring more of it into our lives. We start with this video in which Margaret Heffernan discusses how groups are successful and lo and behold, sensitivity, empathy and equality improves productivity.
How To Explore
To make your explorations meaningful, use these steps to enjoy the deepest and most fruitful experience.

Overview And Purpose
We all acquire identities in our lives, some positive and some burdensome. Eventually, we have to come to terms with these ideas about ourselves including how inaccurate they are. We start to notice how much we have in common with others. We start to see that the world belongs to all of us. The egalitarian part of our nature surfaces.
The egalitarian drive is meant to contribute to our personal development. We each are meant to contribute our unique gifts and abilities to make the world a better place. In this months program we will look at:
- egalitarianism as a cultural and healing model
- the importance of social capital
- what fairness provides us that we cannot get any other way
- the collaboration skills that being more egalitarian provide for us
This is an important month of learning about how to leave the past behind and how to embrace collaboration and connection not just in words but in actions also.
